After a rough month of NASCAR going to tracks that don't fit well with the Gen 7 car, the series will be going to one of the best tracks on the schedule, Kansas Speedway. With the way the Next Gen performs on speedways and how good Kansas has been, the excitement levels for this race are pretty high.
Since the introduction of this new car, Toyota has been the only manufacturer to win at Kansas, although Denny made contact with Larson, giving Denny the lead and the win for this same race last year. But even looking further back, Toyota has won 7 of the last 9 Kansas races.
Combine this with the fact that Denny has been on an absolute tear this year being tied with Byron for most wins this year at 3 and Hamlin should be the favorite heading into this weekend. It's hard to say what it is, but from a viewers perspective it seems like Denny is driving for more than wins. He's going for a historical championship run and it's looking great so far.
Only other driver I would consider is the only other person mentioned, Kyle Larson. When mentioning guys on a tear this year, you have to mention Larson. He's the current points leader and it's largely from winning the most stage points by a wide margin.
Obviously my picks for this weekend to win are going to be Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin. Kansas doesn't typically offer many surprises so going with the odds on favorites is more than likely the best option. Although it may be predictable, the racing should be pretty good, possibly even contending for race of the year despite Fox's terrible coverage.
